Depression Therapist Specializing in CBT Therapy

One of the most effective ways to begin working on your depression is to start working with a depression therapist specializing in CBT therapy. CBT Therapy can be an effective way to treat depression. This type of depression counseling can provide support, guidance, and tools to help you manage your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. At C&B Psychological Services we use scientifically based therapies to treat a range of anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. One of our specialties is our focus in cognitive behavioral therapy.
Every person experiences sadness at some point in their life. Depression, on the other hand, is a much deeper condition. Depression is an acute form of sadness or desolation that persists for more than a few days. It affects one’s daily activities and can even produce bodily discomfort. Depression is readily treatable and can be quite serious, which is why it should not be taken lightly.
Depression, also known as clinical depression, is one of the most prevalent mental illnesses in the United States. If you think you are dealing with depression, you’re not alone. A study in 2014 showed that an estimated 15.7 million adults in the USA (~6.7 percent of all adults) had at least one major depressive episode, according to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).
Depression Therapist Specializing in CBT Therapy
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps you identify and change the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to your depression. This can include thoughts like “I’m not good enough” or “I can’t do anything right.” You may also have behaviors that contribute to your depression, such as avoiding social activities or drinking alcohol to cope with stress.
CBT therapy focuses on solving problems and teaching coping skills. Your therapist will work with you to develop strategies for changing these thoughts and behaviors. CBT therapy can lead to you feeling more in control of your depression and improve your quality of life. CBT is also an evidence based treatment plan for a wide range of disorders, including depression therapy. That means that many scientific studies have been conducted on this type of therapy and show that it is connected with effective results.
When Should You See a Therapist for Depression?
If you are experiencing symptoms of depression, it is important to seek help. Depression can be a very serious condition, and left untreated, it can lead to more serious problems. Some signs that you may need help include:
- Feeling sad or hopeless for more than two weeks
- Loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed
- Changes in weight or appetite
- Changes in sleep patterns
- Fatigue or lack of energy
- Feelings of worthlessness or guilt
- Inability to concentrate or make decisions
- Thoughts of suicide or death
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to see a therapist. A therapist can help you understand your thoughts and feelings, and work through difficult emotions. They can also provide support and guidance as you begin to manage your depression.
How can a psychologist help with depression?
Licensed psychologists are highly trained mental health professionals with expertise in treating patients who have depression. Several different types of psychotherapy, including cognitive behavioral therapy and interpersonal therapy, have been found to aid people in recovering from depression. Psychotherapy can help those who suffer from depression recover by:
- Discover moments in life that are related to feelings of depression and help them find ways to change, accept or adapt to those situations.
- Identify and set reasonable goals
- Review distorted thought processes or behaviors that can contribute to feelings of hopelessness and helplessness.
- Build skills to cope with symptoms and related issues that contribute to feelings of depression, and identify or prevent future episodes of depression.
